Durham's University Publication Guide 2026

Almost everyone anticipates going home over the summer, Durham University seems to enjoy setting such difficult summatives. Alas, we made it to the holidays! There's only one problem: Durham blues. I constantly find myself reminiscing on Snapchat of all the memories I've made and the new friends I've had the pleasure of spending time with. But, how do we stay in touch?
Sure, sending messages is the obvious choice; however, spending time on Instagram and scrolling through our feeds works pretty nicely too. Since starting Castle & Cloister, it made me reflect on how Durham student publications are a great way of staying up-to-date. Here's a list of the Durham University publications you should be reading in 2026.
The Durham Tab
It's by no surprise to see the Durham Tab listed as they're the biggest, and as far as I know, only tabloid within the university. The account has amassed over 15k followers alongside the recent achievement of sharing 1,000 posts. Congratulations! The Editors-in-Chief are Charlotte Morgan and Seamus Barker who hold exceptional experience within the creative and media industry.
A scroll on the Durham Tab's Instagram will give you articles ranging from the latest news, shrines to restaurant SPAGs and "how that one friend who said they weren't going out is moving in Jimmy's." If you are not an active reader yet, I would strongly you to give them a follow as there's big things coming their way in the 2026/27 academic year.
Palatinate
One of the oldest publications at Durham University, Palatinate is a newspaper which holds many awards. And by newspaper, I mean both online and physical. Yes, they print. The Editors-in-Chief are students Finn Watton and Milly Moore who have helped uncover Durham's hottest topics like AI in higher-education and and the cheapest college bars in Durham.
Funnily enough, Palatinate is pinned to my Google bookmarks bar as I often find myself reading through to find statistics regarding student life. For instance, the average grade in every module. I'm praying that the trend will continue as I picked the modules which should hopefully give me a guaranteed first-class mark. Then again, we all know where that mindset can sometimes lead you to.
Brazen Magazine
Founded April 2026, Brazen Magazine is, as the name suggests, a magazine! It seeks to make itself a creative and critical space for "all things creative and literary." Recent articles include Identity, the uncanny and the imperfect in Coraline and Gilded. The exec of the magazine includes writers Hailey Tang and Charlotte Wright who are both students at Durham University. If you're studying English, or even a Bachelor of Arts, this is the perfect magazine to hear scholars' insight on literature and all things creative.
Castle & Cloister
Started in July 2026, Castle & Cloister is one of Durham University's newest publications: a magazine! Met with high-demand, the account has gained over 1,000 followers despite existing for only 2 weeks. It began as an initiative to create more opportunities for students to get articles published ahead of the spring internship application season.
The magazine covers a wide range of topics from the culture at Durham University to, say, the luxury sector and fashion industry. Describing Castle & Cloister as just a magazine would be plain-wrong, or spicy-wrong. Origins set in Durham Stereotypes, a meme page set up in late-2025, its legacy continues in the form of posts such as describing what drink you might be and the red flags at the university. We all love a good bit of self-promotion. Occasionally, of course.
THREAD
Winner of best magazine design at the SPA National Awards 2026, THREAD describes itself as a creative, journalistic platform. Sister brand to DUCFS, the magazine shares expert insight on the fashion industry with articles like Welcome Back FW97, We've Missed You and AI in Fashion. The quality of writing is exceptional with writers who will very likely go on to see long-lasting careers at editorial houses such as Vogue and ELLE.
DUZZ Magazine
DUZZ Magazine describes itself as "your go-to source for the latest trends in lifestyle, fashion and events" within Durham and the North East. It only takes a short scroll to find feature stories, interviews and event coverage within the local area. The founders of DUZZ are Betty Mitchell and Mariella Locke who made the magazine as way to include students in what they're passionate about and find like-minded people interested in journalism.
It's no surprise that Durham University is known for its journalism scene, there are so many fantastic publications you can read: all cover a wide range of topics, you'd likely graduate before you can finish reading every single one. If you would like to get involved with any of these publications, all it takes is a quick DM and you'll have articles published in no time!
